Busy, growing ophthalmology practice looking for a front desk receptionist for clinic located in Monroe, LA. This position is responsible for making the first impression for the entire practice.  The front desk receptionist maintains a pleasant demeanor even in stressful situations. The receptionist greets and checks patients into the practice and notifies clinical staff of their arrival. They are responsible for obtaining and verifying insurance information and collecting payments prior to patient’s departure from the clinic.

  • Responsible for patient check-in, greeting and welcoming all visitors in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Evaluate patient accounts and ensure all information has been provided and/or updated; scan paperwork and other materials into EHR system
  • Track patients in reception area and communicate with them regarding wait times or appointments
  • Explain all fees and patient financial responsibility and answer any questions
  • Collect outstanding balances or make fee schedule arrangements as approved by manager
  • If patient has a glasses prescription, ensure that the patient has had an opportunity to discuss their prescription with an optician
  • Follow up with nurse if patient has any questions or concerns about their treatment
  • Schedule a return appointment for follow-up, as necessary
  • Possess current knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 coding, and modifiers and how they interrelate
  • Review charge sheet for accuracy and post all charges and applicable payments in computer system
  • Ensure that money is deposited at the end of the day. This includes preparing cash deposit and providing copy to accounting
  • Ensure that the money collected, posted, and deposited all balance at the end of the day and deliver all balancing paperwork to accounting office
  • Answering the phone: schedule appointments, answer billing and insurance questions, collect payment over the phone if necessary
  • Receive and sign packages, distribute mail, make coffee
  • Strict adherence to HIPAA and other requirements by law
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma, college preferred
  • At least two years’ experience in medical office

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent ability to manage multiple tasks at once while under pressure in a fast- paced environment
  • Profound customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Empathetic to patients’ needs and concerns
  • Well organized with attention to detail

Requirements:

  • Able to work both opening and closing shifts weekly--- must have the ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Medical office experience required (minimum 2 years)
  • Experience with money handling preferred
  • Proven record of working in a fast-paced environment
  • Perform with a high level of accuracy under pressure
  • Must be available to work Saturday as needed
